Autism Assessment for Children
Comprehensive Autism Assessments
Autism is a complex condition that affects each individual differently. At Children in Mind, we offer face-to-face assessments to accurately identify autism, helping children lead fulfilling lives. Understanding that every young person perceives the world uniquely, we tailor our approach to address the specific impact autism has on each child.
The Autism Spectrum Quotient (AQ) helps identify characteristics linked to autism in older children and teens.
Gold Standard Assessments
Our autism assessments adhere to the highest standards, fully meeting NICE guidelines. Our comprehensive evaluation process includes:
- Initial Screening: Gathering and reviewing preliminary information about the child.
- Clinical Interview: Conducting a detailed interview with parents or carers using the Autism Diagnostic Interview-Revised (ADI-R).
- Observation Schedule: Completing the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS-2) to observe and assess the child’s behaviour.
- School Observation: Observing the child in their school environment for a holistic view.
- Multi-Agency Review: Holding a review meeting with various professionals involved in the child’s care.
- Feedback Meeting: Providing detailed feedback to parents or carers.
- Written Report: Delivering a comprehensive written report outlining the assessment findings and recommendations.
We use the Social Communication Education Questionnaire as part of our autism assessment process.
Specialist Training and Expertise
All our practitioners conducting autism assessments have undergone specialist training, which is regularly reviewed and closely monitored to ensure the highest level of expertise. This rigorous training equips our team to deliver accurate and effective assessments.
The Childhood Autism Spectrum Test (CAST) screens for early signs of autism in school-aged children.
Ongoing Support and Collaboration
We believe in continuous support beyond the initial assessment. Our team can work with networks around the child, providing ongoing assistance and ensuring a collaborative approach to the child’s development and wellbeing.
Tools like the Autism Spectrum Screening Questionnaire (ASSQ) are helpful for screening autism-related traits in school-age children.
Our Commitment to Excellence
At Children in Mind, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care for children with autism. Our comprehensive assessment process and ongoing support ensure that each child receives the tailored care they need to thrive.
